Activities

  • development and maintenance of national references - national and reference standards of Romania - for units of measurement for the sound pressure level, linear speed, linear acceleration, rotations
  • dissemination of the units of measurement, at the required accuracy level, through its calibration services, with results traceable to the SI.
  • development of measuring techniques and procedures, including uncertainty analysis methods
  • cooperation with other institutions in the country and similar institutes from abroad
  • assistance and training on issues related to the theory and practice of measuring
  • pattern evaluations and metrological verification

For this purpose, the Acoustics and Kinematical Quantities laboratory maintains, operates and continuously improves the national and reference standards in its field of activity.

The laboratory is structured on two main fields of activity and includes two groups:

ACOUSTICS GROUP

Aims and tasks

Maintenance, operation and improvement of the national standard for the sound pressure level and the reference standard in its field of activity represent the role of the laboratory.

[image]The national  standard of sound pressure level consists of a group of laboratory standard microphones and a group of standard sound calibrators, with auxiliary installations.

Microphones calibration is performed using a primary method for pressure calibration of laboratory standard microphones by the reciprocity technique in the closed couplers, according with IEC 61094-2 .

The projects for the development of the national measurement standard allowed us to expand from calibration on a single frequency to calibration on the entire frequency range of the microphone.

Currently we use a high-performance installation to measurement standard the microphones using the reciprocity method.

[image]As a reference measurement standard in audiometry we use an artificial ear with an extended frequency range, which will enable participation in international comparisons.

VIBRATIONS AND KINEMATICAL QUANTITIES GROUP

Reference standard for mechanical vibrations

[image]It is represented by a calibration system for piezoelectric acceleration transducers, made by Bruel & Kjaer, consisting of a measurement standard piezoelectric acceleration transducer and a precision conditioning amplifier, measurement standard together at DPLA, using the interferometric method (absolute method).

Reference standard for rotations

It consists of a measurement standard installation for rotations, made by Jaquet, equipped with a precision tachometer designed and built by the Kinematical group members.

Reference standard for linear speed

[image]It consists of an installation designed and built by the Kinematical group members, used mainly when measuring the moving speed of cars and the metrological verifications of kinemometers for traffic control.

Metrological services

Calibration for the following main types of measuring means:

  • electronic, electrical, mechanical tachometers
  • electronic and mechanical vibrometers
  • piezoelectric acceleration transducers

Verifications for the following main types of measuring devices:

  • traffic control kinemometers
